Impro Essence We are a creative performing arts learning school based in Beirut, Lebanon. Our courses span improvisational theater, acting, and well-being. "We provide a supportive environment in a non judgmental space." Listening will free you from having to think of what you are going to say ahead of time. Assuming you have listened, you will be able to agree with what was said AND add information. Agreement is what allows a scene to progress. Improv is a vast mechanism of give and take and support. The group mind is greater then the individual. The quickest way to destroy group mind is by blocking other players, going for a joke or not listening. The scene is always about the relationship, not things or acts. Make the scene focus on the relation. Establishing the Who, What and Where of the scene is essential to having a great scene. Enter a scene with a point of view, opinion or intention… let these drive your character and response. Maintain your character throughout the scene. Be the character to the top of its intelligence. Don't ask questions. Make assumptions and turn questions into statements. Do something, don’t be a talking head. Do something but don’t make the scene about that something. Try to avoid arguing, it lowers your performance. Instead find similarities and differences. Use the silence, and focus on the shifting emotional points that emerge as a scene unfolds. Never behave out of character, especially when you are not sure what to do. Don't get stuck only doing small things, always look at the bigger picture. Let go of your thoughts, this moment is about you and your fellow partners. Time to be present.
